Dublin, Meath, Cavan and Mayo tipped for GAA victories

Dublin to beat Wexford (Hurling)

Having fought out a tense draw in Wexford on Saturday night, both teams will clash again at Parnell Park this weekend. Jack Guiney’s late free grabbed a draw for a Wexford team that had led for most of the game until Eamonn Dillon’s goal nearly caught them out at the death. Dublin have the greater capacity to improve however and should progress to the Leinster semi-final meeting with Kilkenny.

Meath to beat Wicklow (Gaelic Football)

Michael Newman was the find of the season for a Meath side, who despite their inconsistency, still won promotion to Division 2. Wicklow had a league campaign to forget, but they do already have a Championship victory under their belts, with James Stafford and Seanie Furlong excelling in their fine triumph over Longford. While they are not the powerhouse of old, the Royals should still have enough about them to escape from ‘Fortress Aughrim’ with a result.

Cavan to beat Fermanagh (Gaelic Football)

Martin Dunne’s exhibition of point scoring helped Cavan to an unexpected, but fully merited, victory over Armagh in the Preliminary Round. Fermanagh have improved greatly under Peter Canavan and were very unlucky to be edged out of the Division 3 promotion spots right at the death. However, Cavan’s sizeable U21 contingent love playing in Brewster Park and their greater fire power should see them pip the home team.

Mayo to beat Roscommon (Gaelic Football)

Mayo were outstanding as they crushed their old rivals Galway by 17 points in their first round clash in Salthill. Roscommon’s form at the end of the league was very strong and their team is littered with players who have regularly beaten Mayo at underage level in recent years. Nevertheless, Mayo are looking very capable this term and even though Cillian O’Connor is a big loss, they should still win with a bit to spare.
