Liverpool v Milan betting tips and odds

Liverpool start the group phase of the Champions League on Wednesday with a tough match against AC Milan, the team they beat in the 2005 final in one of the great comebacks.

The 2018-19 champions were beaten by Real Madrid in the quarter-finals last season and are 8/15 to defeat the Italians for whom Zlatan Ibrahimovic returned from injury as a goalscoring substitute in Sunday’s dominant 2-0 victory over Lazio during which Franck Kessie hit the bar from the penalty spot.

It promises to be a thrilling European night on Merseyside as we look at some of the options in our Liverpool v Milan betting tips.

Match Odds

Liverpool, 8/1 to win the Champions League and evens to top a tough group also comprising Atletico Madrid, defeated Leeds 3-0 at the weekend in a match which was overshadowed by the badly dislocated ankle sustained by youngster Harvey Elliott, who requires surgery.

The Reds have taken 10 points from a possible 12 to move into joint second place with Chelsea, with three of their wins coming without conceding, so we go 7/4 on a win to nil for the hosts as one of our Liverpool v Milan betting tips.

That said, the Italians have made a perfect start to the Serie A season, winning all three games against Sampdoria, Cagliari and Lazio who had started the campaign with back-to-back victories.

Milan finished runners-up to arch rivals Inter last season and can be backed at 5/1 to win or 13/4 to draw, while they are 6/4 in the double chance market.

Liverpool’s first four matches produced three goals or fewer and they are available at 29/20 to win and under 3.5 goals, while a victory for the hosts and both teams to score is 15/8.

Mo Salah scored his third goal of the season at Elland Road on Sunday – his 100th in the Premier League – and is 23/20 to have two or more shots on target in a home victory.

The Egyptian has taken on average four shots per game this season, half of which have been on target.

Talking Tactics

Klopp started with his customary 4-3-3 against Leeds, with Fabinho, Thiago Alcantara and Elliott starting in midfield, although Jordan Henderson was introduced on the hour mark for the stricken teenager.

Rafael Leao scored Milan’s opener against Lazio just before half-time and was later replaced by Ibrahimovic who made the points safe midway through the second half.

The 39-year-old Swede has been ruled out with a slight Achilles injury and has been rested as a precaution, so Ante Rebic is expected to lead the line.

Goalscorer Odds

Salah is understandably the 3/1 favourite to get the ball rolling and 19/20 to get on the scoresheet, but Diogo Jota and Sadio Mane are not far behind at 7/2 and 9/2 to bag the opener or 23/20 and 13/8 in the anytime market.

Rebic is 9/1 and 3/1 in the two options, while Kessie and Brahim Diaz are 10/1 and 11/1 to snatch the opener, with both men priced at 7/2 to get on the scoresheet in the last of our Liverpool v Milan betting tips
