Man City v Burnley betting tips and odds

Manchester City had a mixed set of results in the lead-up to the international break, beating Chelsea and drawing with Liverpool but losing to PSG in the Champions League.

They return as 1/8 favourites to win their home clash with Burnley, who head to Manchester full of trepidation having lost nine of their last 10 Premier League meetings with City.

The Clarets, 5/4 to be relegated, are 20/1 to win their first game of the season, but recent history suggests that scenario is unlikely so let’s look at the other options in our Man City v Burnley betting tips.

Match Odds

Burnley boss Sean Dyche could be forgiven for having already written off Saturday’s game after a miserable return from recent visits to the Etihad Stadium.

Burnley have lost 5-0 in their last four visits in all competitions which included an FA Cup fourth-round defeat in 2019.

City are 7/10 to win to nil, 8/15 to be leading at half-time and full-time or 19/20 to win both halves, while a fifth successive 5-0 victory is 12/1. A win and over 3.5 goals or 4.5 goals is 11/10 and 23/10.

Last season, City were leading inside 10 minutes home and away against Burnley and can be backed at 12/5 to be in front after a quarter of an hour.

In the half-time markets, City were 3-0 up at the break in the last two meetings at the Etihad and that option is 10/1.

Burnley have scored just twice in eight matches against City and only Norwich have scored fewer than their five goals this season, so with that in mind the hosts to win either half, score at least twice and to keep a clean sheet is 10/11.

Pep Guardiola’s side can be backed at bigger odds of 11/5 to win both halves, score at least three times and keep a clean sheet in Saturday’s Man City v Burnley betting tips.

Talking Tactics

Guardiola is likely to go with a fluid 4-3-3 formation in which Phil Foden, Jack Grealish and Gabriel Jesus play in advanced roles as they have in the last two matches, but Ferran Torres is out for three months with a fractured foot.

Rodri, Kevin De Bruyne and Bernardo Silva started in midfield against Chelsea and Liverpool, but Guardiola has a habit of making changes so we could see the returns of Raheem Sterling and Riyad Mahrez.

Burnley’s Ben Mee missed the goalless draw with Norwich last time out, allowing Nathan Collins to make his Premier League debut, so it remains to be seen who accompanies James Tarkowski in the heart of defence.

Goalscorer Odds

With another goal fest expected, City’s attacking quartet of Ferran Torres, Jesus, Foden and Sterling are all 7/2 to break the deadlock or 11/10 to score.

Ilkay Gundogan, De Bruyne and Mahrez can be backed at 4/1 to draw first blood or the first two are 6/5 to find the net.

Of the outsiders Joao Cancelo is 14/1 and 9/2 in the two markets in our Man City v Burnley betting tips.

Chris Wood is viewed as the likeliest of the Burnley players to grab the game’s opener at 10/1 and the striker is 3/1 to score, while Ashley Barnes, Jay Rodriguez and Matej Vydra are all 9/2 to hit the back of the net.
