3 strikers that could satisfy Aston Villa’s need for goals

With deadline day around the corner, Aston Villa manager Remi Garde remains confident that his club will have welcomed a new striker to the Midlands by the time the January transfer window shuts.
The former Lyon manager, who has won just one league game since replacing Tim Sherwood in November, said about a potential new frontman: “I would like – and am still expecting. I still have hope that I will sign one player, yes.”
Here are three potential goalscorers the Villans could move for before transfer activity closes for the season:
Ross McCormack, Fulham
The Championship’s top scorer with 15 goals, McCormack was the subject of Middlesbrough’s interest earlier in the month. However, he was told by Fulham he would not be sold.
McCormack is trying his level best to force an exit from Craven Cottage, having handed in a transfer request, and Villa could attempt to further disturb the next with an approach on deadline day.
Turning down an approach for a Premier League club is one way to ensure McCormack remains disgruntled and it may be that they have little choice but to relent.
Kane Hemmings, Dundee
Only Ladbrokes Premiership hot-shots Leigh Griffiths and Adam Rooney have more league strikes than Hemmings’ 13 this season.
This is the Burton-on-Trent native’s first campaign with the mid-table Dees, but if Villa are looking to buy with one eye on the Championship next term, then Hemmings should certainly crop up in conversation.
The 23-year-old spent last season with Barnsley, so has Football League experience.
Michy Batshuayi, Marseille
Of course, signing stars with a view to next season in the second tier is a little defeatist. It could be that the Villans take a completely different approach, and go all out to try and survive.
In that case, few strikers are better poised to fire them to safety than Batshuayi. The Belgian has 12 Ligue 1 goals in 22 games for L’OM and has attracted interest from Tottenham as a result.
Landing the 22-year-old would cost a pretty penny, but would at least show Villa are serious about trying to stay up.
