Chelsea looking to splash Mata cash on St Etienne defender
Published:Sniffing around St Etienne’s precocious defensive talent, Zouma, is nothing new for Chelsea who have been courting the 19-year-old for some time.
With John Terry soon to be collecting his free bus pass at Stamford Bridge it’s no surprise that Chelsea have been plotting to bring in a long-term replacement.
Zouma is a colossal presence in the heart of the St Etienne defence and is being touted as a future star of French football in his home country.
However, this is not lost on his current employers, who are very keen to keep hold of his services until at least the summer and already value the youngster’s talents at over £18m.
Still flying the flag on three fronts this season, Chelsea have been busy in the transfer market so far, though with three players leaving and only Nemanja Matic coming in, the club are keen to balance the scales.
Chelsea’s next challenge arrives in their monumental Premier League title decider against Manchester City at the Etihad, which is Sky’s headline Monday night football match.
Whether or not Mourinho manages to land Zouma before the sand runs out on the January transfer window, whichever defenders he puts out will be in for their sternest test yet against the rampant leaders.
City have won every home game so far and Chelsea are priced as the 10/3 outsiders to break the Etihad spell with victory, incidentally the same price they are to win the league.
