Liverpool hope to plug hole with late deal for Leicester defender

With one defensively suspect and one makeshift left-back all he has to call upon, Jurgen Klopp may not be done in the summer transfer window despite plenty of new Liverpool arrivals ahead of Deadline Day.

Rumours first surfaced a few days ahead of the August 31st cut-off point that Klopp was closely monitoring contract talks between Leicester and left-back Christian Fuchs.

The 30-year-old was an integral member of the Foxes Premier League-winning defence, but unlike some other members of Claudio Ranieri’s champions, is yet to agree a new deal.

This is a situation that could well play into Liverpool’s hands on Deadline Day.

Liverpool’s manager had previously hinted he was okay with fielding either Alberto Moreno or James Milner at left-back, early displays have undermined the German’s position.

The German was intent on prising precious Leicester left-back Ben Chilwell from the King Power Stadium earlier this summer, only to see his club’s advances snubbed.

Having kept hold of Chilwell, the Champions League debutants may be more open to Fuch’s exit, although it’s still unlikely they would want to lose a player of his quality and experience.

It would be something of a coup for Liverpool and Klopp if they could make it second time lucky in their pursuit of Leicester left-backs on Deadline Day.

Liverpool fans would have to be delighted given the current state of stocks at Anfield.
