Sean Dyche would make a good choice for Crystal Palace boss

Unfairly ousted during the Watford takeover a few years ago, Sean Dyche is a manager on the up and one who could steady the Crystal Palace ship by galvanising the demoralised ranks.

With the 11/10 market-leader for the vacant Palace job, Tony Pulis, reportedly putting off Eagles chairman Steve Parish with his £1.5m wage demands, the south London club may do worse than turn to one of the brighter managerial talents around.

Fearful of having to lay-out huge wages, Parish has already mooted the ‘plan B’ of bringing in an experienced director of football at Selhurst Park alongside a more youthful manager.

If this does end up being the route that Parish and Palace take, then they could do a lot worse than sounding out current Burnley boss Dyche.

A highly-rated coach, Dyche was promoted from Watford’s U18 manager to become Malky Mackay’s assistant for the first team, where he succeeded him as Hornets’ boss in June 2011.

In his first full season in charge Dyche guided Watford to 11th in the Championship on a shoestring budget – the club’s highest finish for four seasons – before being unfairly relieved of his duties as the club changed hands the following summer.

The man who replaced him, Gianfranco Zola, is now a 20/1 shot to take the reigns at Selhurst Park, though he’s unlikely to be tempted away from Vicarage Road.

Since taking charge of Burnley last season, though, Dyche has excelled in Lancashire and shown Watford exactly what they are missing by guiding the Clarets to their best ever start in any division since they were formed.

Although this may seem like a knee-jerk reaction, the fact that Dyche has been able to work wonders on another tight budget at Burnley shows what a positive influence he is in the dressing room – something that Palace are in dire need of.
