Sheffield Utd v Wolves betting tips: Who picks up the points at Bramall Lane?

Published:

We’re in for a treat tonight with not one, but two matches on Monday Night Football, starting with Sheffield United versus Wolves.

These two enjoyed superb campaigns last term, only to both just miss out on European football at the very end of the season.

But that could be a blessing in disguise, now that each side has fewer distractions. With each of this duo targeting another run for the top-eight this season, we should be in for a cracking contest in Yorkshire…

Match Odds

With their various ups and downs over the years, this pair have only met four times in the last six years, with two wins for the Blades, one draw and one Wolves win.

Our traders are giving Nuno Espirito Santo’s men the nod here at 7/5, with Chris Wilder’s hosts the 23/10 outsiders.  An opening weekend draw for this duo is 19/10.

Both of last season’s contests were evenly matched – and low scoring – with United winning 1-0 in Yorkshire, after a 1-1 draw at Molineux.

There’s 4/9 about under 2.5 goals for the third meeting in succession, and 7/5 about under 1.5 goals tonight.

Talking Tactics

The big change for the Blades this season is that star-stopper Dean Henderson has returned to Manchester United. In his places comes Aaron Ramsdale from Bournemouth.

Ramsdale should prop up the Blades’ familiar 3-5-2, with Ollie McBurnie and David McGoldrick bringing the attacking presence up front.

Sheffield United odds, Bristol City odds, Championship odds

The latter is a slight doubt to start however for the hosts, as are Sander Berge, Simon Moore and Lys Mousset. New signings Oliver Burke and Ethan Ampadu are available. Like last season, Enda Stevens and George Baldock are set to bring the width.

Wolves also utilised 3-5-2 to great effect last season and should do so again this term.

Santo has a largely full roster to call upon, with Raul Jimenez and Jota causing mischief up front, Ruben Neves, Joao Moutinho and Leander Dendoncker pulling the strings in midfield and Adama Traore out wide. Jonny should be Wolves’ only major absentee tonight.

Goalscorer odds

Though Jimenez failed to net against United last season, he’s favourite to score first this evening at 7/2, while the Mexican is 17/10 anytime.

He’s followed in the betting by Wolves’ new man, hotshot Fabio Silva, with the Portuguese wonderkid 9/2 to score first and 9/4 anytime.

For the hosts, Mousset is 11/2 to score first, but if the Frenchman doesn’t start, there’s 13/2 about McBurnie grabbing the opener, with the Scot 3/1 anytime. Jon Egan won this fixture for the Blades at the death last season, and is 11/1 to strike again anytime.
