Primeira Liga Betting Tips: How things stand and this week’s matches

The Primeira Liga will join the Bundesliga as the second major European league to restart this week with five matches scheduled to take place on Wednesday and Thursday.

There’s plenty riding on the remaining ten game weeks in the Portuguese top-flight, including Porto and Benfica’s battle at the top plus the obvious issue of relegation.

Before the action restarts tonight, let’s take you through how things stand and what fixtures there are to look forward to over the next couple of days.

State of play

It’s tighter than a gnat’s behind at the top of the table, with Porto and Benfica separated by a single point.

The pair have matched each other almost stride-for-stride so far, with Dragões top thanks to their record of having drawn one game more and lost one game fewer than their rivals.

All in all it’s a title fight that’s destined to run to the very end, and with both head-to-heads already played between the two sides, it’s going to come down to who can hold their nerve in the run-in.

Elsewhere, Braga hold a four-point advantage over Sporting Lisbon in the race for a Europa League spot, while Rio Ave, Vitoria Guimaraes and surprise package FC Famalicao all still hold European ambitions.

At the other end of the table, Desportivo Aves are rock-bottom and nine points adrift of safety, with Portimonense six points below the water line after just two victories all season long.

Wednesday’s matches

We kick things off at 21:15 tonight with one of the big beasts of Portuguese football, as Porto take on Famalicao looking to extend their 11-match unbeaten run away from home in the Primeira Liga.

The visitors are 4/9 favourites for all three points against 5/1 for the hosts. You can back the Draw at 3/1, while Francisco Soares is odds-on at 19/20 to score at any point in the match for the visitors.

In the other match this evening, relegation-threatened Portimonense (13/10) host Gil Vicente (9/4) at 19:00 in what looks set to be a close fought affair.

The two sides have drawn 19 matches combined this season, with the stalemate priced at 21/10 here. And with just 41 goals between them across the campaign, it’s 12/5 for a Draw and Under 2.5 Goals in the match.

Thursday’s matches

Porto’s title rivals Benfica are the main attraction on Thursday. Those host Tondela at the Stadium of Light from 19:15, with our traders expecting a comfortable victory for the hosts, who are 1/6.

As Águias have won their last two matches against Tondela by a goal to nil, and while it’s 11/2 for a repeat scoreline in this one, there’s also 2/3 about Benfica to Win to Nil.

Elsewhere, Europa League contenders Vitoria Guimaraes (27/20) take on Sporting Lisbon (17/10), while Maritimo (23/20) will want to put some daylight between themselves and the bottom two when they face Vitoria Setubal (11/5).
