Man City v West Ham betting tips and odds

Manchester City secured their place in the last 16 of the Champions League as group winners with a thoroughly-deserved 2-1 comeback win against PSG, but they return to domestic action on Sunday with a tough encounter against West Ham.

City’s victory was all the more impressive in the absence of Kevin De Bruyne, Phil Foden and Jack Grealish, so it is hardly surprising they are 3/10 favourites to win.

The Hammers are not without hope, though, having ended City’s four-year reign as League Cup winners, so let’s look at some of the options in our Man City v West Ham betting tips.

Match Odds

City top the table with Chelsea for clean sheets in the Premier League this season and have not conceded in five of their six home games, so we go 5/4 on the hosts winning to nil.

Pep Guardiola’s side kept a clean sheet when the teams met in the fourth round of the Carabao Cup last month but the holders went through on penalties.

The Premier League champions, of course, lost to Crystal Palace at the Etihad at the end of October, so the Hammers can be backed at 9/2 to draw, 9/1 to win, 18/1 on another goalless encounter and they are 5/2 in the double chance market for Sunday’s Man City v West Ham betting tips.

That said, David Moyes has one day fewer to prepare for Sunday’s game as his players were in Europa League action on Thursday night.

The hosts have also won this fixture by a one-goal margin in three of the last four meetings which is available at 29/10 and with three of the last five clashes with the Hammers resulting in City winning and conceding that option is 17/10.

City have been leading inside 15 minutes in half of their home games this season which can be backed at 16/5, but they have not led West Ham at the break in their previous three games, so the visitors are 20/23 to be leading or drawing at the interval.

Talking Tactics

Foden was a surprising absentee in midweek with a minor knock he first sustained against Everton, so Riyad Mahrez stepped into the breach in a three-man attack also comprising Bernardo Silva and Raheem Sterling.

Oleksandr Zinchenko started his first game since that Carabao Cup defeat by the Hammers four weeks ago, although he has still to start a Premier League game.

West Ham’s line-up may depend on the outcome of their Europa League clash with Rapid Vienna on Thursday night, but Moyes is expected to stick with a 4-2-3-1 formation with Declan Rice and Tomas Soucek in holding roles behind Said Benrahma, Pablo Fornals and Jarrod Bowen, with Michail Antonio up top.

However, key centre-back Angelo Ogbonna is absent with a potentially season-ending injury so Craig Dawson or Issa Diop may accompany Kurt Zouma at the back.

Goalscorer Odds

Sterling opened the scoring against Everton and equalised in the victory over PSG, so the England star is 9/2 to break the deadlock or 6/4 to find the net.

Gabriel Jesus bagged the winner as a second-half substitute and is 9/2 and 7/5 in the two options, the same odds as Mahrez.

Joao Cancelo has yet to score in the Premier League this season but has struck twice in Europe and is 16/1 and 5/1 to get off the mark as one of our Man City v West Ham betting tips.

Antonio scored in both games against City last season and is 10/1 and 16/5, while Benrahma and Fornals are 5/1 and 13/2 to breach the hosts’ mean defence.
