World Cup top scorer odds: Kane heads Golden Boot betting

Kane leads way in World Cup top scorer odds

The World Cup gets under way in Qatar on November 21 and England are the 7/1 third favourites to win the tournament.

The Three Lions will need skipper Harry Kane to be among the goals if they are to go on a similar run to last year’s Euro 2020 final which they lost to Italy on penalties.

Kane is the 7/1 favourite in the World Cup top scorer odds as we look at the latest prices on players to win the Golden Boot.

Harry Kane

The Tottenham striker started slowly at Euro 2020 but ended up with four goals, just one behind joint winners Cristiano Ronado and Patrik Schick.

Kane was also the joint top scorer of all players in European qualifying with 12 goals and he will be hoping to hit the ground running at the World Cup in a favourable group comprising Iran, USA and Wales.

The forward topped the goalscoring charts with six in Russia four years ago, so it is no surprise to see him leading the way in the World Cup top scorer odds.

Kylian Mbappe

France are second favourites to retain their World Cup crown and Mbappe will be key to their hopes in Qatar.

The PSG striker failed to score at last year’s European Championship but he struck four times at the 2018 World Cup and is 8/1 to go one better this time round.

Mbappe also topped the scoring charts in Ligue 1 last season with 28 goals and he will be relishing the chance to get at Australia and Tunisia.

Karim Benzema

Benzema is expected to form a lethal partnership with Mbappe this winter when the Real Madrid striker will hope to bring his club form to the World Cup.

The Real Madrid frontman was the top scorer in LaLiga and the Champions League last season with 27 and 15 goals respectively, and struck four times at Euro 2020.

Benzema is in the form of his life and with France expected to go far, he looks a decent prospect in the World Cup top scorer odds at 10/1.

Cristiano Ronaldo

Ronaldo may be 37, but he is still banging in the goals for club and country and is 12/1 to win the Golden Boot.

The Portugal captain was the joint top scorer at Euro 2020, second behind Kane at the 2018 World Cup and he bagged 18 goals for Manchester United last season.

Although he only scored six goals in qualifying, Ronaldo will be itching to get at Ghana and South Korea in the group stage.

Best of the rest

Lionel Messi has scored one goal every two games for Argentina, but only scored six times in 26 appearances for PSG last season.

Messi was Argentina’s joint top scorer with Lautaro Martinez with seven goals in qualifying and the pair are 12/1 and 20/1 respectively to top the goalscoring charts.

Brazil are 9/2 favourites to win the World Cup and Neymar can be backed at 12/1 in the World Cup top scorer odds having netted eight times in qualifying, the second highest behind Bolivia’s Marcelo Moreno.

Belgium’s Romelu Lukaku is 14/1, while Holland’s Memphis Depay, who netted 12 goals in qualifying, is an interesting option at 25/1.
