Young Boys v Man Utd betting tips and odds

Manchester United fans are still on a high after Cristiano Ronaldo’s double helped secure a 4-1 victory over Newcastle on Saturday and they will get the chance to see their returning hero in Champions League action on Tuesday night.

The Red Devils head to Switzerland where they are 2/5 favourites to win their opening group game against Young Boys.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side are 4/7 to top Group F and 9/1 to win the tournament so let’s look at some of the markets and odds in our Young Boys v Man Utd betting tips.

Match Odds

United could not have asked for a better start to the second Ronaldo era and have the chance to hit the ground running against a team that came through three two-legged qualifiers against Slovan Bratislava, Cluj and Ferencvaros just to reach the group stage.

The Swiss champions have made a so-so start to their domestic campaign but they beat league leaders FC Zurich 4-0 at the weekend having drawn 1-1 with last season’s runners-up Basel before the international break despite playing the whole of the second half with 10 men.

Young Boys, coached by former Huddersfield manager David Wagner, are 13/2 to spring a massive upset or 15/4 to draw but United can be backed to win or draw, the hosts not to score in the first half and under 3.5 goals in the match at evens.

Of slight concern is the fact they have conceded in three of their four Premier League games, two of which came against Southampton and Newcastle, so we go 9/5 on the visitors to win and both teams to score.

United beat this team 3-0 on the same ground during the group stage of the Champions League almost three years ago and won the return 1-0, so with that in mind an away win to nil is 29/20 or a victory by under 3.5 goals is 13/10.

Ronaldo to score the opening goal in a 2-0 or 3-0 win is priced at 14/1 and 20/1 respectively as a scorecast in our Young Boys v Man Utd betting tips.

Talking Tactics

Ronaldo spearheaded the attack in a 4-2-3-1 formation at the weekend when Bruno Fernandes was flanked by Mason Greenwood and Jadon Sancho, with Paul Pogba and Nemanja Matic playing in deeper roles.

The question seems to be whether Ronaldo, at 36, will start the game but Solskjaer said the Portugal captain needed 90 minutes under his belt on Saturday and could get the nod again ahead of Edinson Cavani.

Wagner prefers a 4-4-2 formation with Meschak Elia and Theoson Siebatcheu leading the line.

Goalscorer Odds

Ronaldo heads the first goalscorer betting at 12/5 and is 16/5 to score twice again, as he did against the Magpies, in our Young Boys v Man Utd betting tips.

Pogba grabbed a double against the same opponents in 2018 and is 11/1 to break the deadlock or 7/2 to get on the scoresheet while Fernandes, who drove in United’s third from 25 yards on Saturday, is 7/2 and 23/20 in the same markets.

Greenwood has started the season like a house on fire and is 11/2 and 9/5 with the two options and Jesse Lingard can be backed at 12/5 to repeat his goalscoring efforts from the weekend.

Elia scored his fourth goal of the season in all competitions at the weekend and is 9/1 to get the game’s first goal but Siebatcheu is the 8/1 front-runner in that market and 14/5 just to find the net.

Winger Christian Fassnacht and midfielder Michel Aebischer, who combined for three of the four goals against Zurich, are 7/2 and 9/1 respectively.
