‘Ghosts’ to gun down rivals and be top Christmas video game

Published:

As parents begin serving the brussel sprouts this Christmas, they can expect a supporting chorus of machinegun fire resonating from the living room, as the new Call Of Duty game ‘Ghosts’ is taken for a spin by wildly excited children across the country.

According to Ladbrokes, the latest edition of the extremely popular Call Of Duty series will be virtually unopposed as the best-selling festive computer game of 2013, at 1/5.

Call Of Duty: Ghosts centres around a character called Logan Walker, a member of the US Special Forces who is sent to carry out undercover operations behind enemy lines.

Set in an alternative timeline that follows the nuclear destruction of the Middle East, Walker and his colleagues are pitted against a South American alliance called the Federation and led by General Almagro.

The first-person shooter video game will be the first instalment from developers Infinity Ward that will be available on both the Playstation 4 and Xbox One consoles.

Ghosts’ saleability is also greatly aided by the fact it’s compatible on four other platforms, including Nintendo Wii and Microsoft Windows.

Unlike the other games in direct competition, which include the fastest-selling computer game of all time Grand Theft Auto V – a 6/1 shot with Ladbrokes – Call Of Duty will benefit from a release date far closer to Christmas, of November 29th in Europe.

GTA V could easily have surpassed its shoot ‘um up rival, but having been released back in mid-September it will struggle to create enough buzz for Christmas.

The same thing can be said for Ghosts’ only other viable rival, FIFA 14 (6/1), released by Electronic Arts, as the hugely popular football simulation was also released back in September.

All Odds and Markets are correct as of the date of publishing.
