Prioritise the French if betting on the Breeders’ Cup Euro team

| 31.10.2015

European winners were in short supply at the 2014 Breeders’ Cup.

It was Team GB that sent over the strongest team to Santa Anita, but the likes of Dank, Telescope and Toronado all failed to justify favouritism.

The sole Euro raider to taste success was 16/1 shot Karakontie in the Breeders’ Cup Mile, continuing France’s strong record in the race this century. They have now provided six of the last 13 victors.

And relying on the French of the European travellers has proved a sensible strategy in more than once recent Breeders’ Cup meeting.

The following graphic takes into account the last five renewals and shows why horses trained in France should be relied upon far more than their fellow trekkers from Britain and Ireland.

Numerous horses from each nation are making the commute across the Atlantic Ocean again, although this is the first time that the Breeders’ Cup is being hosted in the Kentucky facility of Keeneland.

And all of the races across the two days of action can be streamed live on Ladbrokes, with best odds guaranteed on all races and money back for all runners to finish second. Terms and conditions can be found here.

The English charge is led by Golden Horn, winner of the both the Epsom Derby and the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe this year. He is by far the star horse of Breeders’ Cup Turf, but he is not guaranteed to relish the soft Keeneland conditions after significant recent rain and this could well prove one race too many after a busy season.

Legatissimo represents Ireland’s best chance of a winner in the Filly & Mare Turf, but no Irish trainer other than Aidan O’Brien has saddled a Breeders’ Cup victor in the past five years. David Wachman’s filly is hoping to end this streak.

The French are represented in two races, with Miss France and Queen’s Jewel taking on Legatissimo.

Miss France should like the step up to 1m1f and the ground, but she hasn’t won since last year’s 1,000 Guineas at Newmarket.

Queen’s Jewel has flopped on her last two starts, but a return to the form she showcased earlier in the season would certainly give her each-way claims.

However, it is another crack at the Mile where France are best represented with three of the top four in the Breeders’ Cup betting.

Esoterique has been consistent all season, although she could be better over a straight 8f. Make Believe’s only poor run came on quick ground, so any rain works in his favour, while Impassable has won three on the bounce on a variety of surfaces.
