Dan Skelton has high hopes for Molly Olly’s Wishes and Blaklion at Haydock
Published:Ladbrokes ambassador Dan Skelton has a busy weekend ahead of him with nine runners at Haydock, Wincanton and Ascot.
The Warwickshire-based trainer took time out to examine the chances of all of Saturday’s prospects.
She is in great form. The trip is no hassle and she has won on heavy ground before. She gets a bit of weight from Olly Murphy’s horse, Thomas Darby. There are a few in there that also go in the ground but I am very happy with our horse. She seems to have come out of Ascot really well, a race which was a month ago.
We didn’t run her at Warwick to give her an extra week. I’m happier with her condition this week than I was last week. There are no negatives.
I’m delighted with the ground conditions for Blaklion. He loves it heavy and he has won at Haydock the last two times. This is a better race of course, but wouldn’t it be magic if at the age of 13 he could go and do the business? He’s a credit to himself.
He isn’t getting any younger either, but he too is in good form. He fell last time, which wasn’t ideal. He has jumped nicely since. I don’t know if he gets three miles, but he has gone in the ground in the past.
We have two in this race. Bridget rides Callisto’s King, who ran nicely the other day at Doncaster. He’s a future chaser but I did like the way he ran.
The same could be said for Farmer’s Gamble. He ran well at Wincanton the last day as well, but again I think he is more of a chaser for the future. They both have little outside chances in what doesn’t look the deepest of races.
I think Go Steady has a chance back over fences. He was fresh and well when he schooled this week. The ground should be perfect for him.
He has it to do on the numbers against the top two in the Kingwell. We are going in with our eyes open, but we are giving it a go.
He runs in a very competitive novices’ hurdle. The race will give us an idea of where we are with him. I think he’ll make a chaser in the future but we will crack on over hurdles to see if he can win a race or two before he goes over fences in the autumn.
I think he is overpriced. I feel like he is coming back into a bit of form now. Hopefully he can run a big race. He has a lot of things in his favour so I think he can leave his recent ordinary form behind.
