Dan Skelton: Lac de Constance best hope at Warwick

Ladbrokes ambassador Dan Skelton is gearing up for Cheltenham, but before next week’s Festival he has 11 runners this weekend, six at Sandown on Saturday and five at his local course Warwick on Sunday.

Saturday

Hometown Hero – 1.50 Sandown

I am really happy with him and this is the race we have had in mind the whole season. He is a seven-year-old so a strong, mature horse. The track will be no issue either and I think he’s got a fair chance. I have three runners in this race and it’s quite hard to split them. They all have legitimate chances.

Jet Plane – 1.50 Sandown

Tristan Durrell gets a handy seven pounds off. He won at Ludlow and then ran well in a qualifier the last day around a right-handed track with a stiff finish so he has a good profile for the race as well.

Our Jet 1.50 – Sandown

Harry rides Our Jet who won well at Wetherby the last day. He looked like he stayed. There was a question mark over stamina before that but that performance confirmed he does stay.

Calico – 2.25 Sandown

I have always felt that Calico is a horse who has a big day in him. Tristan is on board again, taking seven off. I feel like it is going to happen for him one day, but I don’t know when that is. He isn’t the type of horse that you can set your watch to. He is in good form and I have no negatives to say about him.

Lucky One – 2.25 Sandown

Lucky One ran a lot better at Ascot, just probably didn’t quite stay. I think the trip and track is suitable. I am happy with how things have gone in the interim and we have to have a chance.

Meetuatnine – 3.00 Sandown

We are taking on a very good bunch of horses here and I just think that this race will tell us where we are. We will never run in a listed bumper again and if we get on and pick up some black type that’s great.

If we have to drop back to a normal bumper we can do that before putting her away and having a go over hurdles next year. She is fit, genuine and healthy so we just said let’s give it a go. She’s tough and has some form from pointing.

Sunday

Lac De Constance – 2.12 Warwick

He is a good horse and he’s won on his only two hurdle starts. I hope he has a big future and he will be my strongest chance of the day.

Callisto’s King – 2.12 Warwick

He has run one nice hurdle race and one not so nice. I do think he is a horse who is growing up and getting better. I think he’s a chaser for the future though.

Dazzling Glory – 2.45 Warwick

She’s jumped fences well at home so I am happy with her. She has won a couple of hurdles and it feels like it is time to go chasing so let’s give it a go.

Boss Man Fred – 3.20 Warwick

This is a good trip and track for him. He ran nicely last time and I am happy with him.

Mount Tempest – 5.05 Warwick

I think this horse has a big future. He is going to be a jumper down the line. He is doing well enough at home to say he will run a good race here in the bumper.
