International Racing Betting Tips: Our trader on Bordeaux and Gulfstream

There’s another big Saturday of racing to look forward to across the world this weekend with high quality cards from Bordeaux Le Bouscat, Gulfstream and Churchill Downs.
On what would ordinarily have been Temple Stakes day at Haydock, our man on the trading floor Christopher Neale takes us through the best of the international action, including a pair of Listed contests in France.
Derby Du Midi (11:15)
The first Listed race from Bordeaux is the 11:15 Derby Du Midi Stakes in which Frohsim is bidding for a hat-trick of wins for trainer Christophe Ferland.
He will likely go off favourite having made all in a Class 1 conditions race over the same trip at Deauville last time out. However, that form doesn’t look particularly strong with those in behind failing to fire on their next outings, and he’s unlikely to get an easy lead this time round.
With that in mind Fantastic Spirit could be the one to side with for master trainer Jean-Claude Rouget. He sat out back in a Class 1 conditions race at Cagnes-sur-mer last time out before circling the field with a winning run to win on the line by a short-head.
With several frontrunners in the field here, the race may be set up for him, providing he’s able to transfer his form from the all-weather at Cagnes to the turf at Bordeaux.
Grand Prix De Bordeaux (12:15)
The 12:15 is the Listed Grand Prix De Bordeaux. We have another hat-trick seeker here in Joe Francais, who was well out of his depth in last year’s French Derby.
Since then, however, he has returned to the track in 2020 with a brace of wins, one of which came over today’s course and distance and he looks a worthy favourite as a result.
One to take him on with though is Mr Satchmo, who looked a smart recruit when scoring by 9l over course and distance in October of last year, following that up with another win at Listed level before struggling up in trip in the Group 1 Amir Trophy in Doha in February.
Returning to a more suitable trip this time round he looks sure to give the favourite plenty to think about.
20:16 @ Gulfstream
Moving on to the evening entertainment from Gulfstream the 20:16 race looks an interesting one. Todd Pletcher’s Ima Pharoah, a son of triple crown winner American Pharoah, looks set to open a short price in the betting.
Despite posting the highest Beyer Speed figures in the field and a string of bullet work outs, he’s been outbattled into second on both outings so far and it may pay to take him on.
And the one who’s best placed to do that looks to be the interesting Well Connected, who is having his first run since moving from the now blacklisted Jason Servis to Michael Maker’s barn.
He’s put together some encouraging workouts since joining the barn and could provide an upset if Maker has managed to eke out some improvement during his break over the winter.
