Tuesday’s race of the day comes from Kempton with the British Stallion Studs EBF Maiden Stakes at 14:45.
This 6f contest signals the start of the delayed two-year-old season, and with just over a fortnight until Royal Ascot, several of the runners involved could go on to contest the likes of the Coventry or the Albany Stakes.
And with that in mind, it’s Science, appropriately named given the current circumstances, who looks set to head the betting for Archie Watson and top jockey Oisin Murphy.
The No Nay Never colt cost a pretty penny as a yearling, fetching a whooping 170,000 guineas. He’s a half-brother to three winners, is bred to be quick and represents strong connections in Qatar Racing Limited.
Host, who has a slightly more modest £52,000 purchase price, will also hope to be on the scene for a trainer in Richard Hannon who usually does well with his two-year-olds.
The son of Mehmas is also out of half-sister to the Group-placed Rare Ransom, while the Hannon team also run Kool Moe Dee, who has been the subject of significant support in the market.
He’s the first foal of a half-sister to a 7f Group 3 winner in Smaih, and following plenty of interest on Monday, will need to be looked at closely on Tuesday.
Mark Johnston is another trainer who does well with two-year-olds and will hope to be in contention here with Army of India, who is bred to enjoy the artificial surface.
Meanwhile, Hamdan Al Maktoum is represented by Kawaalees for Owen Burrows, and as a brother to two-year-old Group 1 winner Havana Grey plus Havana Ooh Na Na, is expected to go well.
Golden Bear and William Bligh make up those who can reasonably expect to get amongst the places based on the current prices.
