| 27.03.2020

Gulfstream Park hosts the Florida Derby card on Saturday, and our traders have brought you the key tips and odds.

There are six meetings in America on Saturday with the feature being the mammoth 14 race Florida Derby card at Gulfstream Park starting at 15.30.

Here’s what to look out for…

Leading Jockeys

Luis Saez has ridden 104 winners this season including a five-timer on Thursday and look like he will be the man to beat at Gulfstream Park.

All eyes will be on Saez after Irad Ortiz Jr announced he will not ride during the COVID-19 outbreak. Can the Puerto Rican add to his tally of winning rides this weekend?

Luis Saez booked rides: Enjoyitwhilewecan (15:30), Bernin’ Thru Gold (16:00), Largent (16:30), Summer To Remember (17:00), Almashriq (17:30), Rare Form (18:00), Onyx (18:30), He Hate Me (19:00), Souper Escape (19:34), Mean Mary (20:17), Four Grands (20:49), Focus Group (21:26), Sombeyay (22:00) & Ajaaweed (22:30)

Leading Trainer

Todd Pletcher has trained more winners than anyone else at Gulfstream Park so far this season having sent out 42 winners at a strike rate of 23%. He’s got no less than nineteen runners on the card including Gouverneur Morris (6/1) & Candy Tycoon (20/1) in the Florida Derby (22:36).

Todd Pletcher runners: Bering Strait (15:30), Largent & Opry (16:30), Summer To Remember (17:00), Uncle Mojo & Intrepid Heart (17:30), You’re To Blame & American Tattoo (18:00), Last Judgement (19:00), Cap De Creus (20:17), Spice Is Nice & Mrs. S (20:49), Channel Cat & Current (21:26), Social Paranoia, Sombeyay & Halladay (22:00) & Gouverneur Morris & Candy Tycoon (22:36)

Horse To Watch

2018 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf winner Newspaperofrecord had the world at her feet after an undefeated juvenile campaign, however, Chad Brown’s filly failed to win in three starts as a three-year-old.

She returns to action in the Sand Spring Stakes (19:34) as she looks to get her career back on track.

Race To Watch

The Kentucky Derby has been postponed until September but the Florida Derby (22:36) remains a major trial.

Over the years the race has produced 24 Kentucky Derby winners including Barbaro, Big Brown, Orb, Nyquist and Always Dreaming.

This year’s renewal looks typically strong with Tiz The Law 11/10 favourite heading the market. Barclay Tagg’s colt has won three of his four starts, including the Grade 1 Champagne Stakes on just his 2nd start.

He started his three-year-old campaign with a 3-length victory over Ete Indien (5/1) who went on the frank the form by landing the Grade 2 Fountain Of Youth Stakes is also one of the favourites.
