Mo Farah - Anniversary Games

It wasn’t quite a repeat of London 2012’s Super Saturday, but Mo Farah, Jessica Ennis-Hill and Greg Rutherford still gave Team GB something to proud of in Rio.

The trio competed on the same evening of competition just like they did in London four years ago when all three took gold, but on this occasion it was only Farah that could defend his title.

Nevertheless all three athletes collected a medal. Here’s how Twitter reacted:

It was Farah that took the majority of plaudits, especially as he took a tumble midway through the race only to pop straight back up and win

His achievement drew comment from a Hollywood A-lister

As he always does, Farah finished extremely fast

By winning, the running star made a bit of history

Ennis-Hill narrowly missed out on gold in the Heptathlon, having needed to beat Belgian Nafissatou Thiam by 9.47 seconds in the 800m to retain her title

After collecting silver, the athlete hinted at retirement

But remained valiant in defeat

Finally, in the long jump, Greg Rutherford came up against some tough opposition
