How Twitter reacted to Mo Farah and Super Saturday 2.0
Published:
It wasn’t quite a repeat of London 2012’s Super Saturday, but Mo Farah, Jessica Ennis-Hill and Greg Rutherford still gave Team GB something to proud of in Rio.
The trio competed on the same evening of competition just like they did in London four years ago when all three took gold, but on this occasion it was only Farah that could defend his title.
Nevertheless all three athletes collected a medal. Here’s how Twitter reacted:
It was Farah that took the majority of plaudits, especially as he took a tumble midway through the race only to pop straight back up and win
Wow! Mo Farah plays with the opposition by rolling around on the track, gets up and still wins gold. What an extraordinary athlete.

His achievement drew comment from a Hollywood A-lister

As he always does, Farah finished extremely fast
So Mo Farah had enough time to fall over, get up & still win. Not to mention doing the last 100m in 14secs! #Hero pic.twitter.com/e7X820vMCA

By winning, the running star made a bit of history
Just watched @mo_farah race, he overcame a mid-race fall to become the first GB male athlete to win 3 Gold medals

Ennis-Hill narrowly missed out on gold in the Heptathlon, having needed to beat Belgian Nafissatou Thiam by 9.47 seconds in the 800m to retain her title
Jess Ennis-Hill ran through fire in the 800m but Nafissatou Thiam has beaten her to Olympic heptathlon gold. 6810 points to 6775.

After collecting silver, the athlete hinted at retirement
If that is the last time we see Jess Ennis-Hill compete, thank you for all you’ve given over the years. Gonna miss you.

But remained valiant in defeat
Great to see Jess Ennis-Hlll smiling in defeat and appreciating her rival’s success. Gracious in victory and gracious in defeat

Finally, in the long jump, Greg Rutherford came up against some tough opposition
Rutherford jumps 8.30 in London to win gold, jumps 8.29 to get bronze in Rio! Crazy long jump competition! #Rio2016 @TeamGB @BBCSport
