Huddersfield firm favourites if Leeds United ace exits Elland Road
Published:Right now, he’s the toast of Elland Road. But our traders reckon Chris Wood could be about to cut his Leeds United ties with a controversial move to West Yorkshire rivals Huddersfield Town.
The 25-year-old chalked up a hugely impressive 30 goals in 48 games for the Whites last term, finishing the season as the Championship’s top goalscorer. And that’s attracted attention from a number of Premier League clubs.
However, despite interest from elsewhere, newly-promoted Huddersfield are firm favourites to snag the New Zealander if he does leave Leeds, with 3/1 on offer for the former Leicester City man to join David Wagner’s side this summer.
That news will be sure to delight those of a blue-and-white persuasion. Despite an incredible season which culminated in promotion, the Terriers were the lowest scorers in the top eight, so a striker is rightly a priority for Wagner.
The Terriers are followed in the betting by Crystal Palace and Swansea City, who are both 8/1 shots for Wood’s signature – though the Swans could well up their pursuit if star striker Gylfi Sigurdsson leaves the club this summer.
They’re followed by Stoke City and West Ham (both 12/1), with West Bromwich Albion priced out at 14/1 and Southampton rounding out the betting at 16s.
As for Leeds fans, they’ll be praying he stays and guides them up to the Premier League next year.
