ITV Racing Tips: Will O’Brien be in Fairyland in the 1000 Guineas?

Fairyland

The boys have had their go on the Rowley Mile. Now it’s the turnof the girls as we gear up for the 2019 renewal of the 1000Guineas at Newmarket.

As many as seven runners will have serious designs onwinning the second Classic of the season, with Qabala, Skitter Skatter and Fairylandall among the fancied septet.

We’ve had our say on the runners and riders in the 1000 Guineas, along with the rest of the contests at Newmarket and Hamilton, in our ITV Racing Tips.

NAP – DEPUTISE – 2:05 HAMILTON

We’re off to Scotland first up where Deputise is taken to make the most of a depleted five-runner fieldfor William Haggas.

The Kodiac colt won four from eight as a two-year-old andopened up his three-year-old campaign with a decent second behind Pizzicato atLingfield.

He returns to 5f here, a distance where his record against the clock compares favourably to main rival Secret Venture. A return to turf shouldn’t be a problem for our tip, who can get us off to a winning start.

NB – FAIRYTALE – 3:35 NEWMARKET

There are question marks over whether Fairyland’s pedigree lends itself to the 1m trip. But you only have to look at her runs at the back end of last season to be confident that she’ll take to it like a duck to water.

The bare form of her two-year-old season is nice enough. You can’t knock four wins from five runs, including back-to-back successes inGroup 2 and Group 1 company, the latter in the Cheveley Park at Newmarket.

She stayed on well that day to hold off The Mackem Bullet, who has subsequently gone on to win twice over a mile in the United States.Lady Kaya – sixth in the same race – recently won the Irish 2000 Guineas Trial.

That’s a nice form line. And it’s also worth remembering she’s trained by Aidan O’Brien, who has won this in two of the last three years. With three-time winner Frankie Dettori booked, our tip has every chance.

LIVELY LONGSHOT – GIFTED MASTER – 2:55 NEWMARKET

Flavius Titus makes plenty of appeal in this. But RogerVarian’s charge no longer has the assistance of Andrea Atzeni and must also shoulderan extra 4lb for a recent course and distance win.

So we’re falling down upon Gifted Master instead. His early season form isn’t anything towrite home about, although hopes are raised thanks to the handicapper, who hasdropped him back to a winning mark of 109.

He won the 2018 edition of this race off of that rating before going into succeed in the Stewards Cup carrying 111 but with the aid of a claimer. A chance is taken on him bouncing back in this as a result.
