Marc Ó Sé previews Tailteen Cup preliminary quarter-finals

The Tailteen Cup has reached the knockout stage and Ladbrokes ambassador Marc Ó Sé examines all four of Saturday’s preliminary quarter-finals.

Offaly v Wexford (Sat, 16.00)

With a home advantage and having defeated them last year, Offaly will not be afraid of Wexford, who will be the more confident side having beaten Leitrim last weekend. Darragh Brooks, of all people, was the hero, kicking four points. It is rare you see a goalkeeper being top scorer!

Offaly, on the other hand suffered a crushing defeat against Cavan so I feel Wexford have the momentum and that might just be enough to get them over the line. I am backing them to win at 9/4.

Carlow v New York (Sat, 17.00)

There has been a lot of travelling for New York in recent weeks and I just get the sense that this is a step too far for them. Carlow are playing in front of a home crowd at Cullen Park and with Darragh Foley in flying form, it’s no surprise to see they are long odds-on favourites.

Fermanagh v Laois (Sat, 18.00)

After such a poor and flat performance by Laois against London last weekend, I simply cannot see them winning this game.

Fermanagh also suffered a loss to Antrim, but at least they went down fighting. The Erne County will look to players like Ultan Kelm, Tommy McCaffrey and Sean Quigley to get them over the line, and they should get the job done.

Down v Longford (Sat, 19.00)

Both Down and Longford will be very disappointed with last weekend’s results and will want to put that right straight away when they face each other on Saturday night.

However, Longford’s performance against Carlow was very poor. Down, on the other hand, really put it up to Meath and I think they are further down the road in terms of their development. They are at home and I expect them to win.
