Masters snooker: Selby and Dott look likely 6/4 double act
Published:The time has come for the final pair of first round matches at the Masters and a nice little double on Mark Selby and Graeme Dott to progress to the quarter finals looks reasonable value.
Selby faces Stephen Lee in his opener, while Dott takes on Ali Carter, with the double paying a tasty 6/4.
Mark Selby to beat Stephen Lee @ 4/11
Selby has won his last four encounters with Lee, with perhaps most memorable being his 10-3 demolition in the final of the Masters in 2008.
The world number one will also feel that he has a point to prove after disappointing at the UK Championship, losing in the last 16 to Marcu Fu, despite white-washing Ryan Day 6-0 in the opening round.
Although another whitewash is unlikely, Selby should be able to beat Lee comfortably, without really coming out of third gear.
Selby to win 6-2 appeals in the snooker odds at 9/2, while punters could do plenty worse than take the 7/1 on offer for a 6-1 success, given that Lee has managed just one frame in each of his last two defeats to Selby.
Graeme Dott to beat Ali Carter @ 4/5
Dott may have only emerged victorious in one of his four previous encounters with Carter, but this was a memorable 13-11 triumph at the World Championships in April.
Since then, Carter’s form has been largely dreadful, looking short of confidence and pondering his future in the sport.
Meanwhile, Dott has been pretty consistent in the PTC events, which includes a run to the final in Brazil where he lost to Shaun Murphy.
It is hard to make a case for Carter on the latest evidence and a 6-3 victory to Dott is worthy of consideration at 13/2.
If Dott gets the early initiative, there is a small chance that Carter may opt to throw in the towel and 40/1 may be a monster price on Dott winning 6-0.
