Newcastle v Brentford betting tips and odds
Eddie Howe joins Steven Gerrard and Dean Smith as new managers in the Premier League this weekend as he starts the tough job of getting a first win for Newcastle this season.
The Magpies parted company with Steve Bruce last month and installed Graeme Jones as caretaker manager, but former Bournemouth boss Howe is the new man in charge after 15 months out of the game.
There is a hair’s breadth between the teams for Saturday’s game, so let’s look at some of the odds in our Newcastle v Brentford betting tips.
Match Odds
Newcastle and Brentford are 8/5 and 17/10 respectively to win at St James’ Park, so a close game is expected for which a draw is priced at 23/10.
Despite being without a win, United have drawn 1-1 in four of their last seven matches and a repeat of that scoreline is available at 11/2 in our Newcastle v Brentford betting tips.
The Magpies, 11/10 to be relegated, are one of only two teams yet to keep a clean sheet this season and eight of their last nine matches have involved both teams scoring, so we go 7/10 on goals at both ends.

The Bees are going through a rough patch having lost their last four games to slip out of the top half to 14th.
They scored and conceded in the last three, so we go 19/5 on the hosts winning without keeping a clean sheet while the visitors are 4/1 in the equivalent market.
Both teams to score, over 2.5 goals in the match and either team to win looks an interesting option at 15/8.
Brentford have drawn the second half seven times in their 11 outings – a Premier League high – and there are odds of 6/4 for neither team to have the upper hand after the break.
Talking Tactics
Thomas Frank is expected to stick with a 3-5-2 despite four successive defeats but he remains without keeper David Raya Martin, who proved so influential before he sustained a knee injury.
Frank has a few concerns such as midfielder Mathias Jensen who tested positive for Covid upon his arrival for Denmark’s World Cup qualifiers.

Howe liked to deploy a 4-4-2 or a 4-1-4-1 when he was in charge at Bournemouth, but the Magpies have generally been playing five at the back under Bruce and Jones.
Goalscorer Odds
Magpies striker Callum Wilson, who played under Howe at Bournemouth, has scored four times in seven appearances in an injury-hit start to the season and he is 10/3 favourite to draw first blood or 11/8 to get on the scoresheet.
Allan Saint-Maximin has only scored twice, so we go 15/2 and 3/1 on the French winger in the two markets.
Bees forwards Ivan Toney and Bryan Mbeumo have also found the net twice and are 7/2 and 5/1 to break the deadlock respectively or 6/4 and 2/1 to get on the scoresheet.
