Poll: Space Jam 2 in the pipeline but where does the original rank?

People raised in a certain era will have fond memories of watching Michael Jordan team up with Bugs Bunny and Daffy Duck to take on the Monstars, and now we could be in for another instalment.

OK, Jordan may not be the man on court this time round but rumours are rife that LeBron James is set to deliver another slam dunk in Space Jam 2.

It’s only hearsay at the moment but with James’ SpringHill Entertainment going into partnership with Warner Bros and the company filing for new trademarks for Space Jam, we can certainly speculate.

But is the original only held in high regard for its nostalgia factor? We’re putting it to you today to decide which sporting film tops the lot.

Space Jam

The Looney Tunes desperately need someone’s help to fend off Mr Swackhammer’s attempt to capture them for entertainment at Moron Mountain, who could they possibly turn to?

Michael Jordan obviously.

The Chicago Bulls star’s escapades alongside Bugs and Co. may not have been a huge hit with the critics, but will have a special place in the heart of every 90s kid.

Escape to Victory

With Bobby Moore, Pele, Michael Caine and Sylvester Stallone on set, you’re probably already on to a winner, and Escape to Victory was the obvious choice to represent the beautiful game here.

It says a lot about the standard of refereeing that the multiple World Cup winners can only manage a 4-4 draw against the guards of the Nazi POW camp the film is set in, but the goodies come through in the end.

Cool Runnings

Everyone loves an underdog story, and the tale of Jamaica’s bobsleigh team is undoubtedly up there with the best of the lot.

Loosely based on the true tale of the nations foray into the sport, the 1993 cult classic tells the tale of Derice Bannock, who on failing to make his country’s 100m team for the Olympics switches to an altogether different code.

Raging Bull

Martin Scorsese and Robert De Niro at their finest as the troubled tale of Jake LaMotta captivated audiences worldwide.

With a score of 98 per cent on movie review site Rotten Tomatoes, it could be tough to beat, but will the fact that it is a good 35 years old hinder it in this particular poll?

Any Given Sunday

From one revered director to another, with Oliver Stone’s masterpiece telling the story of the Miami Sharks and their struggle to make the play-offs.

With the likes of Al Pacino delivering arguably one of the finest big screen speeches of all time, the tale of gridiron outfit has to make our shortlist. Now, whattaya gonna do?
