Poll: Which Premier League club will tempt Pep Guardiola?

Bayern Munich boss Pep Guardiola is expected to make an announcement on his future next week and speculation is mounting that the Champions League winner is set to make a sensational move to the Premier League.

The 44-year-old’s resume – which includes three La Ligas, two Copa del Reys, three Supercopa de Espanas, two Champions Leagues, two Bundesligas and a DFB-Pokal – means Guardiola could have his pick of the clubs and it is Manchester City, Manchester United, Chelsea and Arsenal who are thought to be in the running.

The papers have City as the frontrunners but Guardiola has discussed the United role in the past, has often been described as a natural heir to Arsene Wenger and with Chelsea all at sea could relish the chance to turn things around at Stamford Bridge.

Manchester City

City’s attempts to lure Guardiola in the past have been clear to see with Ferran Soriano and Txiki Begiristain – the men who gave Pep his chance at Barcelona – appointed chief executive and director of football at the Etihad in 2012.

Guardiola opted for Munich then but with his future undecided City are likely to go all out to land their man this time around.

Manchester United

Sir Alex Ferguson reportedly sounded Guardiola out for the role just before he departed Old Trafford but the Scotsman’s thick accent meant Pep didn’t fully understand what was going on.

United may be keeping pace in the Premier League under Louis van Gaal but there is a growing resentment from the fans – and reportedly some players – about the Dutchman’s’ training methods and football philosophy.

Reports suggest the United board have been in discussion with the Spaniard again in recent weeks so a move to red half of Manchester could yet materialise.

Chelsea

Rumours abound that defeat to Sunderland this weekend will be the final straw that sends Jose Mourinho packing.

The likes of Guus Hiddink, Juande Ramos and Carlo Ancelotti have been touted as interim replacements but Pep would likely be the Russian’s top choice to be next permanent boss.

Whether Pep wants his next challenge not to involve European football though remains to be seen.

Arsenal

Wenger may be the safest of these four managers but after almost 20 years at the helm retirement plans must be creeping into the Frenchman’s thoughts.

After seeing United’s failure to adequately cope with Sir Alex’s departure Wenger might just choose to step down earlier than planned if it means handing the reins to the hottest property in European management.
