Poll Reaction: Man United boss Mourinho likely to flog midfield duo

Published:

Jose Mourinho’s overhaul of the Manchester United squad this summer will see the Portuguese boss send midfield duo Daley Blind and Juan Mata packing.

That’s according to the voters in our poll, who were quizzed on whether they felt the Portuguese would sell one or the other of United’s two midfield men.

The result was that 34 per cent of you tipped both men to head for the Old Trafford exit this summer. That view is certainly given credence by the fact Mourinho has previously sold Mata during his time at Chelsea, and the new Red Devils boss is also believed to have concerns about Blind’s relatively lightweight physique.

There was still a fair amount of support for Mourinho keeping both men, with 25 per cent of you tipping both to remain at Old Trafford next season.

And with Blind playing 54 times for the north-west giants last season, while Mata featured in all 38 Premier League games, it would be a risky move for the former Real Madrid boss to send two of the most established squad members packing before a ball is even kicked.

Meanwhile, many who answered are backing one to stay and the other to exit. A quarter of you think the diminutive Spaniard will remain in Manchester while Blind heads the same way as fellow Dutchman Louis van Gaal, while 16 per cent fancy the former Ajax man to stay and Mata to make way.

Whatever happens, a summer of seismic change is set to take place at Old Trafford, as the charismatic Mourinho looks to shake up the Red Devils squad.

United are 9/2 second-favourites to win next season’s Premier League title, but those odds could tumble if the Portuguese gets his transfer business right this summer.
