Queen of the South returning to Fortress Palmerston at right time

During the 2014-15 season going to Palmerston Park would have been a thing to be feared of with Queen of the South boasting an excellent record in front of their home fans, but things started out very differently this term.
Having won 13 of their 18 games on their own turf last season, three wins from their opening 10 games in Dumfries wouldn’t have gone down well for manager James Fowler.
However, Queens appear to be finally rediscovering the value in making home comforts count.
Their 1-0 victory over Hibernian not only put a massive dent in the Hibees title charge but also saw them take their run to three wins from their last four home ties.
Tuesday’s win might not have been pretty but loanee Andy Murdoch’s goal saw his side stand their ground in the promotion race.
The one slip up in that time saw Rangers beat them 1-0 with the only goal they have conceded on their own turf in that period.
In fact that one defeat was the only time since the end of October that any other side has left Palmerston with three points.
While their away form still leaves something to be desired, Queens find themselves in the heat of a battle for what is likely to be just one promotion play-off spot.
Raith Rovers hold that fourth place position on 35 points, just one clear of Fowler and Co on 34, while Morton are two further points back having played two games more.
Of their four remaining games on their own patch, one is against the aforementioned Raith, while two others see them take on two of the bottom three in Dumbarton and Livingston.
Win those three ties, and their remaining home game against Falkirk could be less of a worry as they chase the promotion spots.
Queens have finished in the top four in two of the last three seasons and maintain their strong showing in front of their own fans and they could easily make it three out of four.
