Rose shows major pedigree but Woods looks doubtful for Masters
Published:Justin Rose has been cut to 33/1 to win the Masters following his one-shot win at the WGC Cadillac Championship on Sunday.
Rose bagged his first win of the season thanks to a final round 70 that saw him fend off overnight leader Bubba Watson who found the water twice to shoot a disappointing 74 and finish one shot behind the Englishman.
The win means Rose now has four PGA Tour wins – the same as Tony Jacklin and Luke Donald – and sets him up perfectly for the Masters in a few weeks.
Rose finished tied 11th at Augusta last year and finished fifth in 2007, showing he has the game to compete at the year’s first major.
However, while things are looking good for Rose, things look like falling apart once again for Tiger Woods.
The 14-times major champion was solid once again for three rounds of the Cadillac Championship, but was forced to withdraw after 11 holes on Sunday because an Achilles injury.
He remains at 6/1 to win the Masters and, if his withdrawal was a predominantly cautionary move, then he may still be worth considering at those odds – especially each-way as he’s finished fourth at Augusta the past two seasons.
Finally, things continue to look good for World No.1 Rory McIroy who continued his incredibly consistent form at the Cadillac.
He shot a final round 67 to finish third meaning he has now placed inside the top five of every tournament he’s played in since August.
It’s an incredible record and if he continues with his current form – and with his amazingly solid swing there’s no reason to think he shouldn’t – then he may be worth looking out for even at the tiny 4/1 currently quoted.
