Spurs intend to test PSG’s resolve again over young midfielder

Adrien Rabiot only signed a new contract during the current season at Paris St-Germain, but that isn’t a big enough deterrent for Tottenham’s ongoing pursuit of the highly-regarded midfielder.

Spurs have kept a beady eye on the 19-year-old centre-mid since last summer, while some reports went as far as claiming personal terms had been agreed in January, only for PSG to quash Lilywhite hopes by pinning Rabiot down to a long-term deal.

Nevertheless, with many contracts easier to break than breadsticks these days, the Premier League outfit still see legs in pursuing the Frenchman whose lack of first-team exposure at PSG could be Tottenham’s best bargaining tool.

Rabiot is an athletic, all-action midfielder who is known to score the odd goal but he’s still some way down a star-studded pecking order in the Parc des Princes engine room.

Fighting the likes of full internationals Thiago Motta, Marco Verratti and Blaise Matuidi for a place, the one-time Manchester City youth has only made 15 senior appearances this season and 40 overall since first breaking through back in 2012.

Although Mauricio Pochettino has blooded the likes of Ryan Mason and Nabil Bentaleb to impressive effect for his 11/2 top-four hunters, in theory these players would be slightly easier to budge.

Some media reports from across the English channel even claim that Daniel Levy and co have invited Rabiot for a VIP look around their Enfield training facilities in the capital.

Tottenham fans will watch this space with interest as this is a transfer saga which looks set to rumble on into another window.
