The Safety Net – Slow and steady wins the betting race

Published:

We were forced to slow our coverage of the safety net bet over the weekend thanks to a huge weekend of sport, but we’re back with a vengeance today.

Francesca Schiavone’s semi-final victory in the French Open last week bolstered our current bank up to £90.50, and we’re continuing to focus on tennis with the AEGON Championships at the Queens Club today.

Having started with a £50 budget, our aim is to make £20 a day over the course of the year in a bid to fill up our ISA’s and after a successful opening couple of days, this week will see us really starting to worry the bookmakers.

Since starting out new safety net bet feature last Wednesday, both of our winning bets have been tennis related and we’re pretty certain Sam Querrey can overcome Kei Nishikori at 4/9 today.

Querrey is the reigning champion at Queens and would count grass as his favoured surface and the while the American faces a promising youngster in Nishikori, he should have too much class on grass for the Japanese youngster.

Nishikori is yet to get past the first round in any of his eight starts in a grass court tournament, and while the 21-year-old is still learning, beating the defending champion at Queens will prove too difficult a task.

Querrey didn’t have the greatest of clay court seasons and will be relishing the return to grass, and the American dropped just one set on the way to victory in last year’s tournament.

With our ambition of making just £20 a day, we’re staking £45 on Querrey defeating Nishikori today in a bid to turn our £90.50 into £110.50.

Current status:
Bank: £90.50
Today’s stake: £45
Best case scenario: £110.50
Worst case scenario: £45.50

Last safety net bet: Francesca Schiavone to beat Marion Bartoli at 4/7
