US Masters: Laird and McIlroy find form ahead of Augusta test
Published:The US Masters couldn’t have come at a better time for Rory McIlroy with the Northern Irishman finally finding the form that saw him climb to world number one last season.
‘Finally’ may be a bit harsh on the USPGA champion but such has been his form recently that he is now judged by the same exacting standards as the man who replaced him at the top of the world rankings.
McIlroy closed with a final round 66 at the Texas Open to finish on 12-under par and it took a course record equaling round of 63 for Scotsman Martin Laird to hold off the world number two at the TPC San Antonio’s AT&T Oaks Course.
A British one-two at the top of the leaderboard a week before the Masters is certainly encouraging for punters looking to back a homegrown player at Augusta – especially considering Ladbrokes’ latest offer.
Should one of the Brits or Irish players tame the likes of Tiger Woods and defending champion Bubba Watson, Ladbrokes will refund all losing outright bets as a free bet up to the value of £25 and the promotion is available to online and mobile customers only.

Laird – who has made the cut on his two previous visits to Augusta – is currently a meaty 100/1 to win his maiden major and may be worth an each-way punt considering he also finished second at The Players Championship (regarded as the unofficial fifth major) last year.
Meanwhile, McIlroy is an ever so slightly shorter 8/1 to add a third major to his trophy cabinet.
