Voters say Mourinho’s Man United are worse to watch than LVG team

Last night was Jose Mourinho’s first stalemate since taking over at Manchester United, but it’s not the first time his style of play has been questioned at Old Trafford. While United fans are used to exciting football, they’ve only seen glimpses of that so far this season.

And it’s that which got us thinking, is this side worse to watch than Louis van Gaal’s was?

Of course, it’s one thing us debating the topic in the office, but it’s much more interesting to hear what you have to say, so we threw the question out this morning on @Ladbrokes.

While it was a relatively close call considering the hundreds of people that voted, 58 per cent of you agreed that Mourinho’s side are less entertaining to watch than Van Gaal’s men were.

What do the stats say?

Well, while Mourinho has more wins to his name than the former boss did after the same amount of league games, fans have only seen 21 goals, compared to the 27 they witnessed in Van Gaal’s first eight in charge.

But looking at the bigger picture, it’s actually Mourinho’s men who are creating more chances-per game (11.1) than his predecessor’s side could manage (9.25) over the two years he was in charge for.

This current United side is also involved in more goals-per-game than they were under the former Netherlands boss, with either net being hit 2.6 times on average per-ninety minutes, while we only saw 2.4 goals per-game during Van Gaal’s reign.

Perhaps last night’s performance against Liverpool was fresh in the memory of our voters today, as according to the numbers, Mourinho’s men are playing their most exciting stuff for years.

That can’t be a good thing…
