World C’ship Acca: Back our 20/1 first round fourfold

The opening round of the World Darts Championship is at the point of conclusion and with no wins from as many attempts we’re determined to cop a victory before we move into round two.

We’ve strung a fourfold together that pays out at 20/1 and revolves around Andy Jenkins sending Justin Pipe packing early doors against the odds.

Andy Jenkins to beat Justin Pipe @ 11/4

Justin Pipe is arguably the slowest man to ever grace any oche the world over and this has often served him well against those who like to build up a head of steam but, unfortunately for him, Andy Jenkins isn’t one of them.

Of their five meetings, the relatively unknown Jenkins has come out on top four times, including a 9-4 trouncing in the 2009 UK Open.

He completed his hat-trick over the Force when the pair met on the European Tour earlier this year and, although this will be the longest duel the players will have contested of all their previous meetings, Jenkins stands a much better chance than his price reflects.

Ronnie Baxter to beat Dennis Priestley @ 8/13

This is sure to be a tight contest but having won 10 of his last 15 matches, including wins over Paul Nicholson, Wes Newton and Dave Chisnall, Ronnie Baxter should justify his favouritism here.

Dennis Priestley got the upper hand when these two last locked horns earlier in the year, but the Rocket has claimed the lion’s share of their 11 career meetings with seven triumphs and showed his class most notably at the Winter Gardens where he reached the semi-finals of the World Matchplay.

Darren Webster (+1.5) to beat Mark Walsh @ 1/1

Although Mark Walsh is unlikely to turn many heads at the Ally Pally, he will be very disappointed not to make it beyond the first round against Darren Webster.

The Sniper will be making his first appearance in this competition since Phil Taylor dumped him out of the 2007 World Championship at the quarter-final stage. He’s been in the game a long time and has plenty of experience to make a go of it against Walshy but progression is beyond him.

A 1.5-set head start is likely to be enough to see Webster prevail and is available at a generous price.

Kim Huybrechts (-1.5) to beat Scott Rand @ 4/6

Belgian sensation Kim Huybrechts burst onto the scene in this competition last year and quickly became a hit with the Ally Pally faithful (in no small part down to his girlfriend, who spent as much time on camera as he did throughout the 2012 championship).

Big-stage nerves played no part as he reached the quarter-final last time and obliterating Brendan Dolan at this stage en route, allowing the heavily fancied Irishman to take just two legs in the entire match.

The Hurricane blasted his way to the final of the Players’ Championship and ran the almighty Power very close in the opening exchanges of that game. If he brings this sort of form with him again expect him to cruise against Scott Rand and 1.5-set handicap will prove an obstacle easily overcome.
