Ghana vs Australia – Black Stars can top group with victory

Published:

Ghana can take a huge stride towards qualifying for the round of 16 if they beat Australia when the teams meet on Saturday at 3pm.

The Black Stars will be full of confidence following their 1-0 win against Serbia, whereas Australian morale will be low after a demoralising 4-0 defeat to Germany.

With this recent form in mind, Ghana could be worth backing as convincing 5/6 favourites, while an Australia victory is priced at 10/3.

Ghana have three wins and three clean sheets from their last four marches. Australia. meanwhile, have lost their last two fixtures, though these failures were preceded by a seven match unbeaten run.

The key area will be midfield, where Ghana excelled against Serbia with Andre Ayew and Kwadwo Asamoah particularly impressive.

Australia, however, will be without their talismanic central midfielder Tim Cahill, who is suspended after being sent off druing the defeat to Germany.

If Ghana can wrest control of this battleground, their pacy forwards will be itching to terrorise a slow, ageing Australian defence.

Asamoah Gyan, who struck the winning penalty against Serbia, is a tempting 9/2 favourite to open the scoring against Australia.

And Prince Tagoe or Kwadwo Asamoah, both impressive in Ghana’s opening win, could also be worth a bet at 7/1 and 9/1 respectively to score first.
