Goal-hungry Huddersfield chase Championship dream

Although they lost to Millwall in last season’s play-offs, Huddersfield are a side with the required resources and hunger to gain promotion.

Lee Clark is one of League One’s most promising young managers, and the former Newcastle and Fulham midfielder will have his eye on guiding his side to the Championship.

Huddersfield are a convincing 9/4 to win promotion this season, and their free-scoring forward line will be key to the Yorkshire club’s hopes of going up.

Having top-scored for Huddersfield last season with 19 league goals, 20-year-old forward Jordan Rhodes is also a tempting bet at 11/1 to be the leading League One scorer.

The Terriers have signed Joe Garner on loan from Nottingham Forest, and the former Carlisle striker is 20/1 to be League One’s top scorer this season.

Losing play-off finalists Swindon are not quite so well fancied to succeed this term, as Danny Wilson’s side are priced at 9/2 to be promoted.

Billy Paynter, who has moved to Leeds, will be sorely missed at the County Ground, but one striker who remains with the Robins is Charlie Austin.

Austin was a revelation last season, scoring 20 league goals after signing from non-league side Poole Town. The 21-year-old is 16/1 to be the top scorer in League One this term.

Charlton, who lost to Swindon at the play-off semi-final stage, are 10/3 to win promotion, though manager Phil Parkinson is having to rebuild his squad.

Frazer Richardson, Nicky Bailey, Jonjo Shelvey and Lloyd Sam have all left, though wily Oldham striker Pawel Abott could prove to be a useful signing.
