ONE LADBROKES PUNTER’S NEW YEAR GOT OFF TO A FLYER with a sensational acca which landed shy of FOUR GRAND, from just 87 pence staked, the bookies can reveal.

The customer correctly predicted the outcome of 10 of the 12 games across League One on Monday, but needed more than their share of luck before final whistles were blown on the 4,323/1 acca.

Oxford went a goal down away at Charlton before Mark Harris equalised in the 22nd minute, while it took another 63 minutes for the visitors to find a winner, which came courtesy of Oisin Smyth to keep the ambitious acca alive… but the drama was far from over around the rest of the grounds.

While Oxford put themselves in front and managed to hold on at The Valley, 21/10 shots, Carlisle United found themselves a goal down at home to Port Vale in the 49th minutes. However, the hosts were gifted a route back into the game courtesy of a penalty in the 80th minute, before Jon Mellish went on to head in an injury-time winner which meant that – as far as this bet was concerned – all eyes turned to a nervy Pride Park.

Peterborough – who were 5/2 before a ball was kicked – were still chasing the game away at Derby, until at 2-1 down with just six minutes of normal time left to play, Kwame Poku put the visitors back on level terms, before a last-gasp winner came in the 94th minute from 21-year-old, Ricky-Jade Jones to give the 5/2 visitors an unlikely three points against promotion rivals, Derby… ensuring the bookie-bashing 4,323.75/1 acca was complete.

Alex Apati of Ladbrokes said: “It’s the acca of the year by default, but this one will certainly take some beating when you consider just how much has gone our plucky punter’s way.”

He added: “There are some huge calls within the acca in question – backing Peterborough away at Derby and Carlisle to beat Port Vale to name but two – but to also manage to leave out the only draw in the division in Barnsley v Wigan, and to correctly predict 10 results, including three comeback victories, two of which came deep into stoppage time… we’re really taking our hat off to this punter. What a great start to 2024.”
