Simpson closing in on switch from Arsenal to Hull
Published:Hull’s attempts to ensure an immediate return to the Premier League have taken them in the direction of Arsenal striker Jay Simpson.
The 21-year-old has found first-team opportunities hard to come by at the Emirates and has been shipped out on loan to West Brom and Queens Park Rangers for the past two seasons.
Bristol City and Leeds are other Championship clubs that have been chasing Simpson’s signature, but his agent Leon Callender, the owner of Straight Ace Sports Management, has confirmed that talks have been held with Hull.
Callender told the Hull Daily Mail: “Jay is very interested in a move to Hull.
“He sees Hull as a good Championship club and feels it would be a good move for him. He travelled up to Hull last week for a look around and has spoken to the gaffer. Now it is just down to the clubs to agree a deal.”
It is believed that a deal would amount to £1m plus add-ons, with the possibility of Simpson arriving in the north in time to take part in Hull’s next Championship clash with Watford, which they are 4/5 to win.
Richard Garcia has started as a lone striker in both of Hull’s league fixtures so far without scoring, while Caleb Folan, Craig Fagan and Daniel Cousin are other forwards on their books.
Hull are 5/1 to secure promotion back to the Premier League, while they are 14/1 to do so as champions.
