Football Acca: Tips for the return of the Premier League

Football acca tips for the return of the Premier League and Championship on Saturday and Sunday.

After 2024 kicked off with the return of the FA Cup, domestic league competition is back this weekend, with the Premier League and Championship both putting on a host of exciting fixtures on Saturday and Sunday.

In the Premier League, Manchester City travel to St James Park to take on a Newcastle side who beat them the last time the two teams met, in the Carabao Cup third round back in September, whilst Tottenham travel to Manchester United, hoping to do the double over their rivals.

Both matches, of course, are included in this weekend’s football tips, which can be backed in a five-fold acca at 52/1. Our FA Cup acca last week, which was priced in at 27.75/1, managed to come in.

Chelsea to beat Fulham

Both having lost their Carabao Cup semi-final first legs this week, against Middlesbrough and Liverpool respectively, Chelsea and Fulham will be more hungry than ever to walk away from Stamford Bridge with three points.

Apart from their blip against Middlesbrough, with Mauricio Pochettino hoping it’s nothing more than that, Chelsea have begun to play better football as of late, picking up some good wins thanks to the likes of Noni Madueke and Cole Palmer.

We’re picking Chelsea to beat Fulham in this one, securing the win in what will be their last game until they host Middlesbrough in the second-leg of the Carabao Cup semi-final on January 23, and that’s priced at 8/13.

Man City to beat Newcastle

Whilst Newcastle might have knocked City out of the Carabao Cup the last time the two teams played, Pep Guardiola was without Rodri, who this season has proved himself to be arguably the Spanish manager’s single most important player.

Barring any unforeseen absence due to injury, Rodri will be playing for City at St James Park on Saturday afternoon, so Ladbrokes is picking them to beat the Magpies, moving within two points of league leaders Liverpool as a result.

Newcastle are an incredibly spirited side, but with several injuries to key members of the squad, and with Kevin De Bruyne back in the fray, it’s likely that Man City will simply be too much for them, and a win for Pep’s side is priced at 3/5 as a result.

Everton & Aston Villa to draw

The punchiest of the bets on this tip sheet, we’re going with a draw between Everton, who sit in 17th, and Aston Villa, who have impressed everyone with their performances that saw them enter 2024 in second place.

However, the table doesn’t tell the whole story with this one, as without their ten point deduction for breaking financial rules, Everton would have 26 points and would find themselves in 12th position, just two points behind the aforementioned Chelsea.

After beating City and Arsenal, Villa haven’t been quite as impressive, only winning one of their last three games in the league, which included a 3-2 loss to Man United and a disappointing 1-1 draw with Sheffield United.

As such, we’re going with a draw at Goodison Park, a notoriously challenging ground to play against, which Ladbrokes has priced at 12/5.

Tottenham to beat Man United

We’re picking Spurs to do the double over Man United, after beating them at home earlier in the season, with a win at Old Trafford on Sunday afternoon, at the price of 21/10.

Tottenham may be without key players James Maddison and Heung-min Son, due to injury and international duty respectively, but they should still have enough to beat a massively out-of-form Man United side.

Andre Onana will be available for selection, despite his Cameroon side playing their first AFCON game the very next day, but the inclusion of the former Inter Milan keeper won’t be enough to sway our minds.

Leicester to beat Coventry

We’re heading to the Championship for the final pick of our acca, and we’re going to league leaders Leicester City to beat Coventry City tomorrow afternoon at the price of 1/1.

The former Premier League winners sit in first place in the league, picking up 65 points from their opening 26 games, leading second-placed Ipswich by ten points.

Coventry, on the other hand, are in eigth place right now, looking to secure a playoff place come the end of the season after losing out to Luton Town in the final last year.

Leicester should be simply too much for Coventry to handle tomorrow, hence why we’re pegging them for a win in our acca.
