Church hoping for more starts at Reading after winning goal
Published:Simon Church is hoping to hold down a regular starting spot at Reading for the remainder of the season after stepping off the bench to grab a late winner against Ipswich.
Church had only been on the field for two minutes when he scored the only goal of the game to lift Reading to sixth in the Championship table and just two points outside of an automatic promotion spot.
Reading are now 12/1 to win the Championship after taking the three points in four of their last six league games and will be keen to boost their chances further when they head to Preston next.
Church understands that competition for places in high in Reading’s attack but wants to be handed a starting berth at Preston, although he has complete faith that whichever team is picked by Brian McDermott will be the right one.
He told the official Reading website: “Obviously I want to play every game, so I’m hoping to get the nod, but the manager picks a team to win and you can’t argue with that.
“Here you have a sense of security in that if you know you’re a good player you also know that you’ll get your chance. Then it’s up to you to take it.”
Reading did the double over Preston last season and will be confident of making it three straight victories.
They are 6/4 to beat Preston, while a repeat of the 2-1 victory they claimed at Deepdale last season is priced at 8/1.
