Bet on Barnsley vs Hull – Home record should see Tykes win

Published:

Hull may have spent two years in the Premier League, but they’ve adjusted to become an average-looking Championship side in record time.

Match Odds

Neither Barnsley or Hull are exactly in sparkling form leading up to this Yorkshire derby.

Barnsley have one win in five and have lost their last two games 3-0, pushing them down to 17th in the table.

They’ve added Preston man Paul Hayes to their striking options for the game with Hull, which is good as only Adam Hammill and Andy Gray have netted more than twice for the team this season.

Barnsley do, though, have a good record at Oakwell, with four wins and just one defeat there so far, to high-flying Cardiff.

It’s this that makes the Tykes marginal favourites at 5/4 to pick up their fifth home win of the season.

Hull’s recent run is no better, without a win in five and only scoring twice in that time, they too will see this game as a chance to kick on and reach their pre-season target of a play-off spot.

The Tigers are 9/4 to win, so not too far behind Barnsley.

They’ll have to do it without Jimmy Bullard though as he’s picked up another injury, but they do have top-scorer Robert Koren available for the game.

First Goalscorer

As neither side have a striker or indeed a midfielder in good scoring form, there’s a selection of good prices to be had on picking out who’s going to score first.

Barnsley’s top-scoring striker is Gray, who’s made 5/1, but Hammill is 8/1 and he’s already got four goals from midfield this year.

For Hull, Koren is 12/1, which given he has three already this year is a great price, as is 16/1 for Nolberto Solano to curl in one of his trademark free-kicks.

Jay Simpson is 7/1 to score the first goal for Hull, follow the full Championship odds market here.
