Carlisle boost striking options with signing of Mike Grella

Leeds United striker Mike Grella has joined League One high flyers Carlisle United on loan.

The former USA under-20 international will join the Cumbrians on loan initially for a month.

Since moving to Leeds in 2008, Grella has found a starting place and goals very hard to come by.

In 30 appearances for the Yorkshire club, Grella has only found the back of the net once, but will be looking to change that while on loan at Brunton Park.

The deal seems to suit all concerned, with Leeds boss Simon Grayson happy Grella will get some experience at Carlisle.

Grayson said “This is an opportunity for Mike to play regular football because opportunities have been limited for him this season.

“Carlisle are doing well in League One so this is a chance for him to play some good games at a competitive level.”

Cumbrians boss Greg Abbott is excited to see Grella in action and told fans, “He’s young, full of energy, and wants to play football.

“His opportunities have been limited so he will come here and we think that’ll give us something a bit different.”

Grella’s arrival has indicated that Jason Price is likely to be moving on after Abbott said, “With Jason possibly going to Bradford and Mike coming to us we think that this will be a big benefit to all three clubs and to the players involved.”

Carlisle are currently second in League One, on course for promotion and are 14/1 to win League One.

They will be gunning for their third away win of the season when they entertain Exeter this weekend – they’re priced at 9/5 to beat Exeter.

Exeter are 12th and are enjoying a solid campaign after flirting with relegation last season.

They won’t hope for too much when Carlisle make the long trip down to the South Coast, but at 7/5 could well win.
