Plymouth have the squad depth to cope with Paterson’s latest injury

Peter Reid insists that Plymouth have the versatility in their squad to cope with the latest injury setback to defender Jim Paterson.

Paterson only played sparingly last season after picking up separate injuries to his hamstring and Achilles, but had recently seemed to have overcome his troubles.

However, after a run of five starts in the Argyle first-team, he is back on the treatment table again after damaging a hamstring in the 1-0 defeat against Hartlepool.

Lee Molyneux is the obvious candidate to fill in at left-back and should start in their next League One outing at home to Charlton, despite making some clumsy errors when beginning the season in the position.

Reid told the Herald Express: “You are looking at least three weeks or a month, I should imagine. We have just got to try to get him fit as soon as we can, and we have got people who can go in that position.

“If you can’t get to balls, you have got to be disciplined and stay on your feet, and I think Lee needs to learn that.”

Plymouth are 7/5 to beat Charlton and win at home to the Addicks for the first time in four attempts.

Reid will be hoping that his team can begin to pick up more victories at home, which will need to be vastly improved if any serious hopes are harboured for promotion to the Championship this season.

Plymouth have won just one of their opening five games at Home Park and have conceded nine goals in the process.

They are 40/1 to win League One this season and currently find themselves nine points adrift of leaders Brighton.

Charlton are 9/5 to win at Plymouth and improve their chances of moving into the League One play-off places. See the full Plymouth vs Charlton match betting odds market.
