QPR odds-on to win the title after seeing off Cardiff

QPR are five points clear of closest rivals Cardiff after coming from behind to triumph 2-1 in the top-of-the-table clash at Loftus Road.

Craig Bellamy fired the visitors – who would have leapfrogged the Hoops had they won – in front in the 13th minute but their lead lasted only five minutes as Kaspars Gorkss made amends for his early error to equalise, then Adel Taarabt scored the winner after the break.

The victory, QPR’s third in succession in front of their own fans after a drawing streak that threatened to compromise their promotion push, saw the west Londoners strengthen their position as title favourites by moving odds-on at 4/5.

Cardiff boss Dave Jones opted to hold referee Kevin Friend accountable for his side’s third defeat in five, claiming that the Bluebirds should have been awarded a penalty late on and that the decision not to denied them a point he felt they deserved.

The Welsh club remains three points clear in second after Swansea and Derby met the same fate as them, squandering 1-0 advantages against Portsmouth and Burnley to wind up getting beaten 2-1, however last year’s play-off final losers are out to 3/1 to finish first.

They had started November with a two-point lead at the top but a run of one win in five has severely hampered their title challenge, though they’ll be confident of bouncing back at home to bottom team Preston next Saturday.
