Dutch pair hit form ahead of World Darts Championship

Raymond van Barneveld has admitted winning the Cash Converters World Cup of Darts for the Netherlands is one of the highlights of his career.

The Dutch duo faced the Welsh team of Mark Webster and Barrie Bates in Sunday’s final, coming out on top 4-2 thanks to a victory in the final doubles game, with Van Barneveld throwing the winning double.

‘Barney’ has struggled for form this season amid personal problems, but found his game in the inaugural world cup to win his first televised event in three years.

He said: “On Thursday when our flight was cancelled we thought we might not even make it to the tournament so it’s incredible for us to win the World Cup.

“I’m so proud, both to win the event and to play with Co. He has been brilliant throughout the weekend and he has been telling me for three weeks that he had a dream we would win the tournament.

“He’s getting better all the time and he showed his quality in this tournament. It’s a huge honour to have won this with him.”

Van Barnevelde is in at 12/1 to win the Ladbrokes.com World Darts Championship and could certainly be worth backing with the two players ahead of him in the betting – Phil Taylor and James Wade – slipping up against the Spanish.

Co Stompe is out at 80/1 for the title after being drawn against Peter Wright in the first round of darts biggest event.
