Sheffield Wednesday miss out on the chance to go second

Sheffield Wednesday failed to take advantage of the cold weather and move above Charlton into second in League One.

Ground staff at Swindon Town should be applauded after their efforts meant that Swindon were able to host Wednesday, despite every other fixture in League One failing to take place, and the Swindon faithful will be thankful for their efforts.

Three points for Swindon means Danny Wilson’s side move clear of the relegation zone after starting the day in 20th place, and are now just five points off a play-off spot in 14th place.

But Wednesday, who are 5/2 to win League One, will be gutted after missing out on the chance to enter the automatic promotion spots.

Three of Wednesday’s next four games are all against sides that are in or around the relegation zone, just like Swindon were before today’s game.

However Alan Irvine’s side play Bristol Rovers and Yeovil Town at home and Irvine will be looking for maximum points from Wednesday’s next four games.

Should Wednesday take 12 points, they will be very much contenders for the League One title heading into the new year and it may be worth taking the League One odds for Wednesday to win League One before they shorten.

Swindon will be delighted with their three points and that should prove a huge confidence boost ahead of their FA Cup second round replay with Crawley Town on Tuesday.

The Robins are currently 500/1 to win the FA Cup and face Derby at home in the third round should they negotiate their way past Crawley.

Brighton still lead the way in League Two and are 9/4 to win. New customers can sign up here for a free £10 bet.
