Riquelme to stretch Blackburn’s relegation odds

Blackburn are still looking for a marquee signing to not only please their new owners but also ensure their survival in the Premier League and the latest discussions revolve around Argentine playmaker Juan Roman Riquelme.

It is 5/1 in the Premier League betting that Blackburn are relegated this season and they currently enjoy a six-point cushion from the bottom three.

In order to boost their worldwide stature and their chances of challenging for European qualification this season, Blackburn have been targeting a superstar signing, but their approaches for Ronaldinho and David Beckham have so far proved unfruitful.

However, the club has not given up and are now in discussions with Boca Juniors over the availability or Riquelme.

The Venky Group have stated that money is no object in the quest to land a big name, although manager Steve Kean would need to have the final say before any such deal is completed.

Agent Barry McIntosh, who played a pivotal role in the recent signing of Jermaine Jones, told the Lancashire Telegraph: “I have spoken with Jerome Anderson, who is doing a lot of work for Blackburn Rovers, about Riquelme and it is being thought about.

“He could prove a great alternative to Ronaldinho.”

Blackburn’s next Premier League game is one that they will fancy their chances of winning as it is at home to West Brom.

They have never lost at home to West Brom in their four previous meetings in the Premier League, although they have only won on one of these occasions.

Blackburn’s betting odds are 11/10 to beat West Brom this season and have already taken three points off the opposition once during the campaign when securing a 3-1 victory at the Hawthornes.

A £25 stake on Blackburn beating West Brom 3-1 for the second time this season would return £250. New customers can sign up here for a free £25 bet.
