Forget Redknapp, Guardiola backed to be next Chelsea boss

With all of the money on Harry Redknapp becoming the next Chelsea manager all but fizzed out, it is Pep Guardiola that is now the subject of the betting furore in the market.

After being backed into 4/7 early yesterday morning, Redknapp now appears friendless and has drifted back to 7/4 in the next Chelsea manager market.

Although he is still favourite, all of the hype now surrounds Barcelona boss Guardiola, who has emerged as a leading frontrunner despite his current engagements of trying to lead his side to a second Champions League triumph in three years.

Guardiola has been backed down from 8/1 to 5/2 in the Premier League odds in the last day to be unveiled as the next permanent Chelsea manager, with the rumour stemming from his decision not to deny the rumours linking him with the vacancy.

Barcelona legend Johan Cruyff had suggested that the Champions League final could be Guardiola’s last as manager.

And when he was asked about the speculation, Guardiola replied: “This is not the day to talk about that. We have worked an enormous amount of time to get here and it is a privilege to be here, so let’s not talk about anything else.

“Leaving? Let’s leave that for another time. The important thing is the club, no matter who the coach might be.”

Guardiola has been on the Chelsea shortlist for a lengthy period of time, but with there being no real reason that he would seemingly leave Barcelona, they have never really followed up the idea.

Barcelona are 1/1 in the Champions League odds to beat Manchester United inside the 90 minutes, while it is 1/2 that they lift the trophy by any means.

Alternatively, 13/8 is available that Manchester United are the cup winners and it is 11/4 that they triumph in normal time.

A £30 stake on Guardiola being the next Chelsea manager would return £75. New customers can sign up here for a free £30 bet.
