Aussie wonderkid has previous when it comes to toppling Djokovic

Novak Djokovic may have lost just one match all year but the Serb has never beaten the 18-year-old Bernard Tomic, his opponent in Wednesday’s Wimbledon quarter-final.

Alright the two have only met once, but there aren’t many tennis players that can boast a winning record over the world number two who has lost just one of his last 53 matches, and Djokovic is clearly aware of the threat Tomic poses.

Tomic has been a revelation at the 2011 Wimbledon championships and the 18-year-old has been widely regarded for a while now as the next big thing, and the Australian will be high in confidence when taking on Djokovic.

Tomic is the 6/1 outsider to beat Djokovic tomorrow and the Australian was 7/2 when beating Djokovic in their only encounter in Australia at the start of 2010.

The grass courts of a Grand Slam championship make this a lot tougher for Tomic than an ATP tour match in Kooyong, but there will be plenty of people inside court one cheering the Aussie on.

Djokovic is the 1/10 favourite and there’s no doubt he will take all the beating, but Tomic has upset the Wimbledon odds in his last two matches and there is hope for punters who want to take on the Serbian.

Tomic has dropped just two sets at Wimbledon this year, both to Igor Andreev, and the Australian was mightily impressive when disposing of Xavier Malisse and Robin Soderling.

Of Djokovic’s four matches at Wimbledon this year, only Marcos Baghdatis has managed to come within 6.5 games of the Serbian but Tomic has a youthful arrogance about him now and he will take the game to the world number two.
